Lyophilization (freeze-drying)

Lyophilized = freeze-dried. The peptide is dissolved, frozen, and the water is sublimated under vacuum, leaving a dry porous cake of peptide. Aurex peptide vials ship in this lyophilized form because: - Lyophilized peptides are ambient-stable for many months (no cold-chain shipping). - They survive shipping shock and temperature variation that would destroy a reconstituted aqueous solution. - Peptide bonds are far more stable in the dry state than in solution. Reconstitution requires bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol). Once reconstituted, the peptide is stored at 2–8°C and used within ~28 days for most compounds.
